Mother Nature decided to throw us a bone here in Michigan, and we had a few warm days not long ago. I had to take advantage, and get a jump start into this year’s season. Lord knows, I have failed so many plants, but I’m certainly learning what not to do. One thing rings true to my gardening style, I have to try something new every year. I get bored quick, so I like changing things up or challenging myself. This year, I have an ambitious agenda.

I am breaking up the curb appeal, and spreading the cheer, so to speak. I am turning some ground in the center of the front yard, and planting my Michigan garden with the beautiful maze and blue we all love so much! Lol! I’m adding some borage, which are beautiful blue, eatable flowers, some purple coneflowers, and the daffodils from last year’s raised garden. We’re moving the daffodils, due to the gigantic tree in front of our house. It blocks most of the sun, so the flowers really don’t get the amount of sun they need. Being in the center of the front yard allows the flowers to absorb more direct sunlight. I will try to circle back to this post, and update with some context and more pictures.

I am also changing things up by trying out the high-density gardening lettuces, and some leafy greens. I’m a bit trepidatious of leafy greens, but I am going to give them the old college try. I do love my salads! Hopefully, I’ll create some new recipes, as well. I guess I better not get ahead of myself. I took my grandson to “King’s Books” in Detroit the other day, and I found the “Ball Blue Book” 1972 edition with a ton of canning recipes. I’m excited, but I don’t want to start acting too big for my britches. One thing I love about waste, it all goes in the compost. Yay! Lol!

The want to share some insight I recently discovered. I’m sad to learn that Burpee seeds are GMO seeds. I guess it’s my fault for not doing this deep-dive prior to my investment, but nonetheless I had to make some changes. I found a wonderfully MICHIGAN MADE company that manufactures their seeds, and they are GMO free! It’s called MI Gardener I was thrilled to find this site. They also sell other products, including fertilizer. I did invest in it, but it will take this gardening season to report my findings. Any time I find Michigan made products worth bragging about, I do it. Let’s see how these GMO free Michigan made seeds hold up. Happy digging friends!
