Go Find Your Beauty!

In a world that emphasizes tragedy for click-bait and ratings, one may feel as though they have to look long and hard to find the beauty and love in life, but it’s not true. There is beauty and love everywhere, if you choose to see it! I know the ugly life can throw at us at any given time, but I want to see the beauty more, so I look for it more. This doesn’t mean I don’t hurt or I don’t understand fear or I haven’t experienced failure. On the contrary, I know these things. All the same, life is precious and damn skippy worth trudging through the muck to see the sunrise again. Literally. Some of the most simple steps we take everyday can be and are beautiful.

A cup of your favorite coffee.

Laughing until your belly hurts.

A hot bath.

A walk on a warm, sunny day.

Seashells.

Holding hands.

Conversations with people who hold your heart, gently.

One of my most favorite delightful reminders are flowers. Nature has blessed us with everything we could ever possibly need to appreciate life, struggles included. These colorful little friends sprout themselves up through the dirt, and bam, we’re smiling! When I was a young mother, I had a few outdoor gardens, but I did not give them as much attention as the ones I have now. I was preoccupied with keeping three boys fed, bathed, clothed, and out of trouble. I had to reserve energy.

Now, I have a bit less energy, but much more time. It’s a synergistic relationship though. I may start out with low-energy, but once I start moving plants around, repotting, and digging to put some in the ground, the energy starts to flow. It’s truly therapeutic for me. It’s a cyclical relationship. I am continuously reminded of how I contribute to the health and well-being of this beauty. My garden and I are besties, at this point.

Make no mistake, it doesn’t have to be a large garden. You can be in awe of this world’s beauty with just a few plants. They will not disappoint. If you’re not sure how to start, start out small. Look for low-maintenance plants to get you going at first. Look at your space to examine where the high-light and low-light spots are and then look for plants that fit those care descriptions. Even if you are not prepared to start, take a walk. Go check out your neighbor’s garden or which plants they are using. I can assure you of this, a nice stroll through your neighborhood will offer you inspiration. You’ll appreciate the different array of colors and fragrances around you. Beauty and love all wrapped in nature’s blooming glory!
